Lateral Hip Stability
The muscles on the outside of your hips play an important role in stabilizing the pelvis during standing, walking, running, and jumping!
Weakness or instability to these muscles can directly lead to injuries such as IT Band Syndrome or runners knee, but can also indirectly lead to shin splints, ankle sprains, plantar fasciitis, and others.
Female athletes are more prone to injuries in the side of the hip due to an increase in something called the Q-angle relative to most male counterparts. Taller athletes with longer legs are also at a higher susceptibility!
Here is a simple four-exercise progression to work on strengthening 💪 this region!
1️⃣ Standing Hip Abduction
2️⃣ Side-lying Hip Abduction
3️⃣ Side Bridge w/ Hip Abduction
4️⃣ Side plank w/ Hip Abduction
